Myanmar library association
The Myanmar Library Association (MLA) is a non-government professional organization directed toward the development and improvement of library services and operations. It aims to “Transform the libraries and librarians in Myanmar”, provide leadership for capacity building of librarians, empower the profession in the development, promotion, and delivery of quality library and information services, and cooperate and collaborate with governmental and non-governmental library associations and institutions locally, regionally and internationally.
Purposes of MLA are to support the improvement of the qualification of librarians and library workers; to improve the student of literacy knowledge, to develop/reenergize libraries, to make the community libraries and centers greener; how to be truly sustainable community libraries; to improve the development of library education.
MLA successfully hold 7th annual congress with over 100 librarians and library workers. The congress approved recruiting 8 more Executive Members for running operation effectively and efficiently, including youth librarians.
MLA’s 7th Executive Board enters its term from 2023 to 2026 with the strategic focus areas:
(i)Governance,
(ii)Education and training,
(iii)Membership,
(iv)Programs and activities,
(v)Communication, partnerships, and
(vi)Advocacy
MLA holds regular monthly meetings with Executive members via zoom online during the political crisis in the country.
Library Education and Training
MLA is doing training, discussions, and workshops with its members and non-members who are paraprofessional, non-professional and library workers around the country.
Workshops and training with Township Education Officers, Principals and teacher librarians on School Libraries Development Project continuously held via Zoom application.
MLA set up the libraries in Myanmar Nun College in Insein Tsp, Monastic Education school Libraries, and Buddhist University Library with MLA members librarians in group by group.
Three-month course of Daily Situational English Conversation (Weekend Classes) is being held with the university librarians and community librarians; conducted by newly appointed Vice President of MLA Daw Soe Soe Lin.
